I see a vision of a great rucksack revolution thousands or even millions of young Americans wandering around with rucksacks, going up to mountains to pray, making children laugh and old men glad, making young girls happy and old girls happier, all of ’em Zen Lunatics who go about writing poems that happen to appear in their heads for no reason and also by being kind and also by strange unexpected acts keep giving visions of eternal freedom to everybody and to all living creatures … – Jack Kerouac
Well, now you know where the name of this blog comes from! It’s inspired by a Kerouac book we read in our teens. Kerouac is - of course - infamous for being a beatnik, travelling around the US in freight trains, living frugally while at the same time writing about it philosophically in a never-ending stream of consciousness. We can dig that! Don’t worry - We’ll try not to get too philosophical on here. Can’t promise 🤷
A quick intro: we’re Babette & Carsten - a thirty-something couple from Belgium that love to explore nature. We’re just about to leave on a trip of a lifetime: we plan to bike from Belgium to Spain and Portugal. We have 6 months so the idea is to make lots of detours and explore the French and Spanish interior while we’re there. There’s no real destination, the idea is to take the path less pedaled, camp in wild places every night, get our feet dirty, explore the little towns along the way, and get to know the locals. 🏔️ 🌄 🌊
8 years ago we backpacked around Canada, Alaska & Patagonia. An experience that really shaped us. This time, the revolution is not so much by rucksack as it is by panniers!
¡La revolución se hace en bicicleta! 🚲
